Richard & Katya – A Russian bride and her dashing groom.

Richard & Katya’s love story started when they met each other on a night out in Sakhalin, Russia (where they both live) and the rest as they say is sweet, sweet history…or “история” in Russian! I met them for the first time earlier this year when they flew back to the UK for their Engagement Shoot around London (Richard is originally from Surrey). We incorporated their table number cards into the Engagement Shoot, which they then framed and placed on the tables – a really nice touch!

What I love most about Richard & Katya is that they can’t keep their hands (and eyes) off each other – their love for each other very real & so beautiful! They celebrated their marriage with an intimate group of family & friends in Surrey on a hot & sunny day in August and on the way back to the venue, Katya suggested we stop off for some couple photos at Mayfield Lavender – which with the lavender still in bloom, created the perfect backdrop for this gorgeous Russian bride and her dashing groom!

Richard & Katya – I hope you’ve settled back into daily life in Sakhalin by now! I hope that your photos will bring back lots of sunny wedding day memories to cherish during the winter months in Russia!

Here are a few of my favourites from the day:

True to the Russian tradition of expressing hospitality to the happy couple – when Richard & Katya arrived at the venue, their parents presented them with a loaf of bread, which has a salt cellar in a hole on top of the loaf, placed on a rushnik (embroidered towel). This symbolizes hospitality & long friendship!

Katya had two bridesmaids & five flower girls who looked so pretty in their pink dresses!

I love the ‘wedding cake’ – chocolate covered strawberries by Berry Scrumptious and the old family & wedding photos from Katya & Richard’s families.

"London-themed-wedding-table-plan"

Richard & Katya’s table plan set against an old map of London and the framed table number photos below.

Richard & Katya ran into the garden just as a whole flock of geese flew past overhead – I love how Richard looks like he’s trying to fly too!

I love a good sunset couple portrait session – gorgeous light and the perfect reason to sneak away for a few minutes before/after dessert!

Hilarious speeches and Katya’s chief bridesmaid Zarina translating Richard’s speech into Russian.

Katya throwing her bouquet just after sunset – spot the little flower girl trying to get away before she throws it!
