New Orleans travel photography – US road-trip 2013.

Part two of our epic US road-trip 2013, took us to southeastern Louisiana where we fell head over heels in love with New Orleans. What made New Orleans a city I would definitely visit again? Fantastic live music on street corners and in most bars in the French Quarter, yummy (and very potent) cocktails, interesting food and streets filled with French & Spanish Creole architecture, which New Orleans is famous for.

We were bowled over by how friendly the locals were and I really got a sense for that famous “Southern charm” you always hear about – it definitely lies at the heart of New Orleans. We managed to tick quite a few New Orleans “must-do’s” off our list, which included sampling Southern staple food – grits (made from corn) with some seriously good Creole shrimps. VERY yummy.

We listened to some amazing blue grass live music at the world famous Spotted Cat Club and in various bars on Bourbon Street, and sampled beignets (French-style doughnuts covered with powdered sugar) from the institution that is Cafe du Monde (established in 1862 in the New Orleans French Market) and enjoyed many a famous “Hurricane” (Daiquiri style cocktail, credited to New Orleans tavern owner Pat O’Brien) – a mainstay in the French Quarter.

It’s no surprise that New Orleans has been called the most “unique” city in the US, and we certainly left feeling like we could have stayed for another 4 days!
