My last shoot in South Africa during March this year was a creative bridal shoot. I’ve always wanted to do an urban bridal shoot in Johannesburg (where I’m originally from) and I’m very happy to say that the results of this shoot, more than exceeded my expectations! I really enjoy being involved in and shooting creative concept shoots and this one was extra special as my first international bridal shoot. Situated in the heart of Johannesburg city center, Newtown is a really cool part of town, with graffiti, old buildings and interesting architecture. I had so much to work with and with the amazing light we had, I was guaranteed loads of glorious lens flare.
When I started planning the shoot, I created a little “Urban Bridal Shoot” moodboard on Pinterest - a great way of sharing visual ideas with other vendors involved in the shoot. In my mind I wanted it to be a fun, playful bridal shoot with the model wearing a short wedding dress in an urban setting. With brides in South Africa wearing mostly full length wedding gowns, I had my work cut out for me, but after contacting popular wedding gown supplier Lady Marmalaide Bridal Studios in Fourways, I had a beautiful two-piece Cosmobella wedding gown secured for the shoot and we were able to create the playful, as well as a more sophisticated look for Elinor our lovely model.
For the first look, Elinor wore the short wedding dress, showing off her gorgeous legs with a pair of Benjamin Adams London heels (Dita) from Bridal Shoes SA. Soft make up & loose curls by very talented hair & make up artist Susan Kang was perfect for a sweet & playful bridal look, rounded off with a couture headpiece by Jannie Baltzer (all the way from Denmark) for some sparkle.
For the second look Elinor wore the short wedding gown dress , plus the ruffled skirt, which created a gorgeous full length gown, complete with fabulous sweeping train. Susan transformed Elinor’s loose curls into a messy up-do and with the second couture headpiece from Jannie Baltzer, the more sophisticated bridal look was complete.
